Digi Choosday Project | Double Column Fun Fold Surprise Card

This week’s DT theme for Polkadoodles Digi Choosday is December Birthday! I always say December babies are extraspecial — they share their birthday month with all the holiday cheer! Sure, they sometimes get those “2-in-1” birthday and Christmas gifts (haha, we all know it happens!), but that’s even more reason to give them a card that stands out.

So for this week’s project, I made a Double Column Fun Fold card - because December babies deserve more than an ordinary card! It’s a card they can stand and display proudly, and I designed it in soft green and pink shades, still giving that Christmas vibe, but with a fun twist.

Materials Used

  • Sentiments – Winnie Celebrations 2
  • Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue

  • Ohuhu Alcohol Markers

  • CutterPillar Pro Paper Trimmer

  • CutterPillar Crease Score Board

How to Make It

Card Base

  1. Cut plain white cardstock to 5.5” x 11”.

  2. Score on the long side at 1 1/4, 1 7/8, 3 3/8, and 4”.

  3. Flip to the other side and score at 4 3/4”, then flip it back to the first side.

  4. Rotate the cardstock 180° and repeat the same measurements on the opposite side.

  5. You should now have 4 valley folds on each side and 2 mountain folds in the middle.

  6. Reverse fold the score lines so that valleys become mountains and mountains become valleys.

Pattern Papers

Use 2 different designs. Cut:

  • 2 pcs each (Pattern 1 & 2) – 5 3/8” x 1 3/8”

  • 4 pcs (Pattern 2) – 5 3/8” x 5/8”

  • 4 pcs (Pattern 2) – 5 3/8” x 1/2”

    5 3/8” x 1 3/8

    5 3/8” x 5/8”

    5 3/8” x 1/2”

Assembly

  1. Adhere Pattern Paper 1 (two pieces) in the center front and back of the white card base.

  2. Glue Pattern Paper 2 (5 3/8” x 1 3/8”) to the two wide panels at the front.

  3. Add the 1/2” strips on each side of those same panels.

  4. Glue two of the 5/8” strips right in the middle of Pattern Paper 1.

  5. Add the remaining two 5/8” strips to the last panels, gluing them closer to the score lines (not the edges).

Flip the card base. Fold the two panels backward and add glue to the edges of the white panels.

Then, glue the white panel next to the patterned one so the fold creates a double column shape. Repeat on the other side.

Decorating

  • Color your Winnie Celebrations – Baked You A Cake digi using your preferred markers (I used Ohuhu Alcohol Markers – Y06, Y17, Y19, YR00, R26, R25, R9, R50, R29, YG66).

  • Once your base is dry, adhere the digi image on the front by adding glue only on the parts that touch the base.

  • Add a 2.5” circle at the back for your message area, and finish with a small sentiment.

Now you have a beautiful double column display card that folds flat but stands proudly - the perfect way to celebrate someone’s special December birthday!
