This is part 2 of my “Make a Gift that Holds Chocolate” DT projects for Polkadoodles Digi Choosday — and it’s another cute and practical one! If you missed the first, check out my Diagonal Lid Gift Box (it also holds chocolates, of course!).
For this one, I made a Standing Gift Box Easel that’s perfect for tucking in a hot chocolate packet and candy cane — or even mini notebooks and notepads if you’d like to use it beyond the holidays. It’s a lovely handmade gift that’s both adorable and functional!
Materials Used
CutterPillar Pro Paper Trimmer
CutterPillar Crease Score Board
Plain cardstock
Pattern Paper: Polkadoodles Icy Winter Papers Set 2 - Theo Penguin
Embellishment: Polkadoodles Beary Christmas Topper Sheet
Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue
Instructions
Create the easel base:
Cut 2 pieces of plain cardstock to 4.25” x 11” (if using A4 paper, cut in half on the short side).
Score one piece at 0.5”, 1.5”, 2.5”, and 6 ¾”.
Fold along the score lines, then glue the last 0.5” tab to the other side to form your easel base.
Make the pocket:
Take the second cardstock piece and trim it to 4.25” x 6 ¼”.
Score at 0.5” and 1” on both long sides (then flip).
Score at ¾” and 1 ¼” on the short side.
Cut the tabs as shown in the photo
Glue the flaps to form the pocket.
Assemble the box:
Attach the pocket to the easel stand.
Add layers and pattern paper:
Cut solid cardstock: 2 pcs 4” x 4”, and 1 pc 4” x 2 ¾”.
Pattern paper: 2 pcs 3 ¾” x 3 ¾”, and 1 pc 3 ¾” x 2 ½”.
Adhere the patterned layers to your cardstock panels, then attach them to the easel base and pocket.
Decorate:
Add cute details! I used Bella the bear from Polkadoodles’ Beary Christmas Topper Sheet elements to finish it off.
Fill your easel box with chocolates, hot cocoa packets, or little notepads — and you’ve got a handmade gift that’s as sweet as it looks!
Join the fun!
