It’s November!!! This week's Happy Planner Layout

This week’s Happy Planner layout is flowery — because, well, people in Manila are currently bringing flowers to the cemetery for All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day. Haha! Joke lang. What actually happened was: what I  wanted  for this layout didn’t quite work out, so I ended up adding flowers and leaves instead. Hence, that curved floral thingy smacked right in the middle of the spread. Such an  ugh  layout, but oh wells. I used the  Happy Memory Keeping Floral Memories  and  The Encourager  sticker books for this week’s spread. Sentiment for the week:   Girl, you are super amazing. Crafty things I worked on last week  I finally turned my  Bee Happy Weeklies Aall & Create “paper dolls”  into cards ! It was a little #Inktober inspired project I worked on one afternoon just so I could play with my Distress Oxides again. I made a  hybrid scrapbook layout  for  Traci Reed’s Sketchy Sunday  — it’s a layout for my...

Digi Choosday Project | Mixed Media Traveler’s Notebook with Saddle Stitch Tutorial featuring Polkadoodles Lilac Haze Watercolour Flowers

This week’s Digi Choosday project is all about adding at least one of the following: ribbon, bow, string, cord, twine, or washi tape—so I decided to go the creative route and make a Mixed Media Traveler’s Notebook using Polkadoodles’ Lilac Haze Watercolour Flowers collection.

This project includes a saddle stitch binding tutorial, plus ideas for decorating your inner pages with minimal embellishments so you still have space for photos and memory keeping

MATERIALS USED

Polkadoodles Products:

Other Materials:

  • Surebonder Glue Gun

  • Cutterpillar Pro Paper Trimmer

  • Cutterpillar Crease Score Board

  • Bearly Art Precision Glue

  • Vellum paper

  • Ruler, Scissors

  • Needle & Thread

  • Binder Clips

  • Piercing Tool

  • Foam for poking holes

  • Washi Tape, Ribbon, String

  • Aleene’s Glitter Snow

  • Tim Holtz Mini Stencil

  • Palette Knife

  • Dylusions Ink Spray

  • Post-Its, Tags, Cardstock

STEP 1: Prepare the Pages

  1. Choose three double-sided patterned papers and cut them to 8”x8”.

  2. Score each one in the middle at 4”.

  3. Fold along the score lines to create your notebook pages.

STEP 2: Add a Mini Page

  1. Cut one more piece of patterned paper to 5” x 3.5”.

  2. Score it at 2.5” on the long side.

  3. Fold it—this will become a small insert in the notebook.

STEP 3: Assemble and Bind the Notebook

  1. Layer your folded papers together, placing the mini insert wherever you’d like.

  2. Clip everything in place using binder clips.

  3. Place the notebook on a foam base. Use a ruler to poke holes along the center fold, spacing them ½ inch apart using a piercing tool.

STEP 4: Saddle Stitch Binding

  1. Thread a needle with a single thread, no knot at the end.

  2. Start at the center hole from the inside, leaving a tail of thread.

  3. Sew to the right edge using a running stitch.

  4. Once you reach the end, stitch back toward the center.

  5. Then stitch going to the left side, and back again to the center.

  6. When you’re back in the center, go outward and tie a knot.

  7. Tug the knot inside the notebook, then tie it to the starting tail. Trim excess thread.

    8. Take the inside pages and press them together. Then take the outside cover and press / fold them the opposite side. This will help your notebook fold properly. Then, fold the way you would a notebook.

STEP 5: Decorate the Cover

  1. Trim a piece of vellum to 4” x 8” and tear down from the short edge to get a ripped effect.

  2. Tape it to the right side of your cover using double-sided tape (to avoid glue marks).

  3. Layer washi tape along the edges of the vellum and along the bottom of the cover.

  4. Choose a stencil and apply Aleene’s Glitter Snow with a palette knife. Let it dry.

  5. Add ribbons and string trims, digi flowers from Lilac Haze, and additional embellishments.

  6. Spray lightly with Dylusions Ink Spray for a soft mixed media look.

STEP 6: Embellish the Inner Pages

Keep the inside pages functional with just a few decorative elements:

  • Page 1: Add a pocket with a thumb notch and tuck in a cardstock piece.

  • Page 2 (mini insert): Glue a Lilac Haze digi.

  • Page 3: Create a tag with ribbon and a digi flower. Use a paperclip to attach.

  • Page 4: Stick down two 3”x3” Post-Its and embellish with a digi.

  • Page 5: Add a digi. I used Butterfly Fairy Winnie Daisy digi.

  • Pages 6 & 7: Add small floral digis in each corner.

  • Page 8: Make a tear-edged pocket and insert cardstock.

  • Page 9: Leave blank.

  • Page 10: Glue a floral digi at the bottom only to make a tuck spot. Insert photo mat or journaling card.

  • Page 11 (mini insert): Add another ribbon tag and clip it on.

  • Page 12: Leave blank for journaling or photos.

Final Touch

Once done, give your notebook one final press and fold. You now have a beautiful handmade traveler’s notebook ready for journaling, planning, or memory keeping.

  1. This is one nice traveler's notebook. So intricately designed which surely will motivate one to journal and plan every step of the way.
The use of different materials gave it a unique texture. It looks like a complex artwork but looking at your easy-to-follow tutorial (not to mention very detailed), this art piece is so simple yet so gratifying to make.

Mini Album with Tags | Polkadoodles Project

I had so fun creating this sweet little  Mini Album with Tags  using Polkadoodles printable goodies - it was fun and relaxing. This project is simple and it’s super versatile too. I designed the base cut file myself using  Cricut Design Space , and if you’re using DS, you can grab the file right here . It’s a great starting point if you’re looking for a quick and easy project with lots of room for personalization. For the papers, I used the  Happy Cactus Succulent Printable Papers  from Polkadoodles. The cheerful colors (my fave colors too!) and patterns are perfect for a spring or summer vibe. I paired them with solid cardstock for structure, using it for both the base and the tags tucked inside. The sentiment on the bellyband— “Hi, You” —comes from the  Honeypie Greetings Sentiment  pack. It’s such a simple but sweet message that works for just about any occasion. To finish it off, I tied a cute  polkadot ribbon on the tags  for a little e...

Polkadoodles Project - Kicking Off Christmas with a Clear Front Easel Card

First Christmas card of the year — check! I’m officially diving into festive crafting, and what better way to start than with a sparkly, interactive  easel clear front card ? I love how this one turned out. For this project, I combined die cutting, digital stamps, and a bit of dimension to create a unique card that’s both sturdy and see-through (yes, acetate powers!). Here’s how I made it and everything I used: Supplies Used: Plain cardstock (blue) Acetate sheet Glitter cardstock Lawn Fawn  – Snow Flurries Backdrop dies Sizzix Big Shot Ohuhu Markers Foam tape Bearly Art Precision Glue Cricut Maker Polkadoodles Digi Stamp  – Winnie White Christmas Polkadoodles Sentiment  – Seasons Greetings Paper trimmer 🛠️ How I Made It: Cut the acetate  to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. Die cut your glitter cardstock  using any border die you like. I used Lawn Fawn’s  Snow Flurries Backdrop  for a pretty, intricate and sparkly touch. Cut plain cardstock to 4 1/4 x 11 inc...

Digi Choosday Project | Gratitude Journaling Folio with Polkadoodles Autumn Fall Fox

Digi Choosday Project | Gratitude Journaling Folio with Polkadoodles Autumn Fall Fox   This week’s Digi Choosday prompt is  Halloween / Autumn , and while I initially planned on making just one Halloween project, I couldn’t help but want to do an Autumn-inspired one too. So… here’s my second project: a  Gratitude Journaling Folio  featuring the adorable  Autumn Fall Foxes  from Polkadoodles!  This folio is actually a  one-page wonder  design, but I saw the perfect patterned papers in the  Boo Halloween Paper Digital Bundle  and  Enfys Jetsetting Digital Stamp Bundle —so I ended up layering extra panels inside. If you’re recreating this, feel free to stick with a single 12x12 patterned paper, or go wild like I did!  The  cover  is a mixed media combo of a paper doily, trims, flowers, one of the Autumn Fox digi stamps, and the word  “Grateful.”  Inside, I added more sweet words like  “Thankful” ...
