Digi Choosday Project | Dimensional Birthday Card with a Soft Embossed Background

For this week’s Polkadoodles Digi Choosday project, I created a simple but special birthday card with a beautifully textured background and a sweet Rebel Girl focal point. Here’s how you can make it too!

Materials Needed

  • White cardstock
  • Cutterpillar Pro Paper Trimmer
  • Embossing Folder
  • Distress Oxide
  • Ohuhu Alcohol Markers
  • Aleene's Glue
  • Foam Tape
  • Digi Stamp - I used Birthday Cake Rebel Girl

1. Prepare the Card Base

Start with white cardstock trimmed to 8.5” x 5.5”.

Score it at 4.25” on the long side to create a standard A2 top-fold card.

2. Create the Embossed Background

Cut another piece of white cardstock to 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” this will be your background panel.

Emboss it using a 3D embossing folder. For my project, I used the Sizzix 3D Textured Impressions Crochet Mandala by Eileen Hull.

Once embossed, blend Distress Oxide in Worn Lipstick over the panel. Start darker at the bottom and gradually lighten the blend as you move upwards to create a soft gradient effect.

3. Prepare and Color the Digi Stamp

Print and color the Birthday Cake Rebel Girl digi.

For coloring, I used Ohuhu Alcohol Markers in the following shades:

  • R310, RV260, RV23

  • Y4, Y2, Y59, Y3, Y1

  • YR03, BG68, BG4

For added detail, I used Ohuhu Acrylic Markers in 101 White and N504 Neon Pink to add dots and lines on her skirt and party hat.

Adhere the colored digi to the background panel using glue.

4. Add the Sentiment

Choose your favorite birthday greeting. I used the sentiment “a little bit older and a whole lot more fabulous” from the Wanda Messages and Quotes collection.

Pop it up on foam tape for added dimension.

5. Assemble the Card

Once the digi and sentiment are in place, attach the completed background panel to your card base, again using foam tape to keep everything raised and dimensional.

And just like that, your cute, simple, and wonderfully textured birthday card is done!
