Zig Zag Fun Fold Card for December Birthdays
So this is project 2 of 2 for this week’s Digi Choosday, with our DT prompt of December Birthday! And just like I mentioned earlier, December babies celebrate their birthdays during the Christmas season - which often means they get just one gift for both occasions! So I thought they deserve something extra special - a zig zag fun fold card that’s not your basic fold, paired with a matching gift pouch you can fill with sweets, treats, or a cute little surprise.
Since this card only uses half of an 8.5” x 11” cardstock, I decided to make two versions to maximize my materials and avoid too many scraps. Plus, I have a sister who’s a December baby so one of these is already hers!
You can check this blog post for the matching gift pouch tutorial.
Materials Used
Plain cardstock (for the base)
Pattern paper – Polkadoodles Winnie Celebrations 2 - Papers 2
Digi stamp – Polkadoodles Winnie Celebrations – Surprise!
Sentiments – Winnie Celebrations 2
Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue
Ohuhu Alcohol Markers
CutterPillar Pro Paper Trimmer
CutterPillar Crease Score Board
Rosie’s Studio Gemstones (optional)
Decorative flowers (for the second card)
Instructions
Cut your 8.5” x 11” solid plain cardstock in half to make 2pcs 4.25” x 11”. Score at 3” (just a little mark).
Rotate 180° and mark again at 3”.
Align both marks along your trimmer’s cutting groove and cut — this gives you two card bases of the same shape.
From the thinner side of the cardstock, score at 3” on the long side.
Flip your cardstock and score again at 4 1/4” on the longer panel.
Fold to create your zig zag fun fold card base.
Pattern Paper & Layers
Cut 3 different pattern papers:
5 1/4” x 4”
4 1/4” x 3 1/2”
3 7/16” x 2 3/4”
White cardstock: 4 1/4” x 3 1/2”
Align the largest pattern paper with your card base (pattern side down), trace the slanted edge, and cut along the line. Use this piece and do the same with all your layers, aligning them so they follow the same angle. Make sure that your middle piece (medium pattern paper) is facing down when you cut.
Decorating
Color your digi stamp using Ohuhu Alcohol Markers:
G24, G210, G313, RV01, RV160, RV180, Y515, YR314, E614, CG2, E210.
Cut:
1 white circle (1 5/8” diameter) with your sentiment in the center
1 larger circle (2” diameter) matching your card base color
Layer your digi on the larger circle, add foam tape for dimension, and decorate with gemstones or little flowers.
And that’s it — a cute, dimensional card perfect for your December baby!
